Getting to Croatia, 2011

Planning our 4 ½ month trip to Croatia:

Reason for trip:  Husband awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to University of Pula, Croatia.

Arrange for prescriptions for 5 months through our separate Health Insurance companies, alarm system for house, solar powered tickler (or is it trickler?) charges for all vehicles, arrange for lawn care, neighbors on the alert for us, check on fees for credit cards and ATM cards we currently have, get adaptor plugs for computers, hair dryer, curling iron, mail to be forwarded to Croatia.  Yes, the USPS will actually forward your first class mail to an overseas address.  Amazing…

We signed up for several new credit cards to get frequent flyer miles, free hotel rooms, and cards that don’t charge a foreign transaction fee.  Pick whatever airline you like, they all have some kind of frequent flyer programs and credit cards.  At the time we were looking into this, Capital One was the best deal to use as a credit card and Charles Schwab had a good deal for an ATM card when you opened up a checking account with them. No transaction fees for either of these cards.
